A man accused of kidnapping Cleo Smith; NSW Victoria border opens; NT city in fast lock

Goondiwindi Mayor Lawrence Springborg supported the move to exclude the NSW town of Moree from the Queensland border bladder.

“Unfortunately, this has a big impact on a lot of people in our cross-border community,” he said Today.

“We want to make sure that can be avoided, especially with what is a very, very good harvest.”

Cr Springborg said he warned of this scenario happening, and that Goondiwindi’s high vaccination rates have kept them in a good place.

“I’ve been saying for a long time that we demand that workers who come back and forth be vaccinated,” he said.

“Also other people who come back and forth in the bladder should have a similar vaccination. And that wasn’t the case.

“The government, to their credit, moved last night to close that loophole, but it still exists and will still be difficult to police.”
