Emergency services were called to Mount Druitt, in the west of Sydney, yesterday around 10:15 after reports of stabbing.
The 26-year-old man then allegedly stabbed the member of the public in the back before attempting to flee.
He fled the scene on foot and was arrested nearby by officers.
The injured man, aged 28, was treated at the scene before being taken to Westmead Hospital in stable condition.
The younger man was taken to Blacktown Hospital before being taken to Mt Druitt Police Station, where he was charged with five offenses including frequent assault and use of an offensive weapon to prevent lawful arrest.
He was denied bail and will appear at Parramatta Bail Court today.
