Bexleyheath fire: Four dead including two children after horrific fire

Four people died including two children in a house fire in South East London last night.

Fire crews rushed to the scene on Hamilton Road in Bexleyheath at just before 8.30pm.

Six firefighters and about 40 firefighters were present.

Crews in breathing apparatus rescued two women and two children from the first floor using a nine-meter ladder.

They all died at the scene.

One man left the building before the London Fire Brigade arrived and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service. The fire was extinguished by 9:45 p.m.

London Fire Commissioner Andy Roe said: “This is a really terrible event that is both sad and shocking.

“Our thoughts are with the family, friends and local community in this difficult time.”

Fire crews from Bexley, Erith, Plumstead, Lee Green and Sidcup were all called in.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
