Today is Guinness World Record Day 2021 – an annual celebration of great achievements, daring feats and the weird and crazy.
The Guinness Book of World Records has become a staple, with children big and small lining up to buy the latest edition to find out. who is the tallest woman and how much the heaviest potato weighs.
For the record, it is 7.8 kilograms and its name is Doug the Spud.
This year, some of the records broken include “most consecutive cars skipped on a pole stick” and “most cars pulled with teeth”.
Since its inception in 1955, the Guinness Book of World Records has seen a whole host of truly bizarre world records.
Here are some of the weirdest.
The strangest Guinness World Records ever
Most punctures in a lifetime
After her first skin piercing in January 1997, Elaine Davidson was hooked.
The Brazilian restaurant owner has been stabbed a total of 4,225 times since them – earning her the title in 2003.
Tightest skin
British man Garry Turner is able to stretch the skin of his stomach to 6.25 inches due to a rare disease called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
It is a connective tissue disease where the collagen becomes defective, and includes the relaxation of the skin and hypermobile joints.
Gary told Guinness World Records when he won the title in 1999: “I always knew my skin was different – as a little kid my uncles used to have fun showing off to their friends.
‘Stretching doesn’t hurt at all. However, other aspects of the syndrome are very painful, [like my] joints. ‘
Most lean waist
The thinnest waist was once awarded to Cathie Jung, an American who in 1999 had a corset waist measuring 38.1 cm eye-catching.
Cathie’s enthusiasm for Victorian clothing is why at the age of 38 she began wearing a training belt of 15.24 cm to gradually reduce her then 66.4 cm waist. She never had surgery to define her waist.
Since 1983, she wears a corset 23 hours a day, only removing it for her daily shower.
Longest tongue on a dog
Puggy, a Pekingese, owns the longest lectern recorded at 4.5 inches.
The measurement was made at Avondale Haslet Animal Clinic, Texas, in May 2009, when he was nine years old.
Longest nails (female)
Lee Redmond boasted the longest nails on hand ever.
It took the American nearly 30 years to grow her nails to the record 28 feet, 4.5 inches in February 2008.
The longest single nail was her right thumb, which reached 2 feet, 11 inches.
Unfortunately, her nails broke in a 2009 car accident.
A few months before the accident, Lee joined a Guinness World Records adjudicator in Michigan to help measure the 29-foot, 8-inch nails of Melvin Boothe, the new champion for longest nails on a pair of hands ever (male), which unfortunately has. since passed away.
Longest mustache
Ram Singh Chauhan’s mustache is the longest, at 14 feet.
The Indian man’s facial hair was measured in Rome, Italy, on March 4, 2010.
It is unknown what Ram did next, or how long his mustache is now, but the record-breaker has yet to be beaten.
When he won the record, he had grown his mustache since 1970, spending two hours a day pampering it to ensure its continued growth – but said he washes it only once a fortnight.
A longest metal coil passed through the nose and out of the mouth
So … this is a thing.
Andrew Stanton, a side show performer in Las Vegas, reached the length of 11 feet, 10.91 inches in March 2012.
Not much is known about Andrew – how he discovered this talent, and how one trains for such a feat remains shrouded in mystery.
What is known is that Andrew remains undefeated to this day.
The tallest dog in the world
Puggy is not the only talented dog on this list.
In 2016, Freddy the Great Dane was named the world’s tallest dog.
Freddy stands at a huge 7 feet 5.5 inches tall on his hind legs.
However, the gentle giant sadly passed away in January 2021 at the age of eight.
Freddy stole the title of 2012 champion Zeus, another Dane, who measured at a miserable 7 feet 1.5 inches tall.
Most spoons swung on his face
Most spoons balanced on face are 31.
This amazing achievement was achieved by Dalibor Jablanovic in Serbia in September 2013.
How do you even discover that you have this talent?
Most needles inserted into the head
We’ll save you the picture for this one, but this bizarre achievement was achieved by Wei Shengchu in 2013.
Most pins inserted into the head are 2,188.
With those levels of acupuncture, Wei Shengchu needs to be super relaxed.
The longest distance holding a table raised by teeth
Do you ever have trouble getting a table in a restaurant? Well, this man might be able to help.
The longest distance holding a table raised by the teeth is 11.80 meters.
It was reached by Georges Christen who ran that distance holding a 12kg heavy table with a person weighing 50kg sitting on it in Madrid in February 2008.
Farthest arrow shot using the feet
Katniss Everdeen, eat your heart.
Brittany Walsh set the record for the farthest arrow shot using the feet.
The acrobatic archer (did you know that was a thing? We certainly didn’t) shot an arrow en masse 12.31 meters.
The feat (ba while tss) was achieved at Creston School in Portland, USA, on March 31, 2018.
Longest legs ever
By the way, Tyra Banks. There is a new pair of long legs on the sparrow.
This Texas teen is the envy of us all with his record stems.
In 2020, Maci Currin broke the Guinness World Record for having the longest legs in the world and the longest legs on a teenager.
Maci’s left leg measures 135.267 cm and his right 134.3 cm.
The high school senior stands at a staggering 6 feet, 10 inches – not quite as tall as the world’s tallest woman, Sandra Elaine Allen, who stands at 7 feet, 7 inches.
