A full statement from West Midland Police as a girl is tragically killed

West Midlands Police released a statement after the tragic incident.

The force said: “We arrested a 24-year-old man after a young girl sadly died after a collision on Reddings Lane, Yardley.

“The girl was transported to hospital but unfortunately died from her injuries. It is understood that the girl was using a zebra crossing when she was hit by a silver Ford Galaxy just before 14:40 today (11 November).

“The driver of the car did not stop at the checkpoint, but officers quickly took witnesses and statements, and arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after locating his vehicle in the area.

“The girl’s family was with her during the tragedy.”

On-duty Inspector Paul Hughes, of the force’s serious collision investigation unit, said: “The tragic death of such a young child is deeply sad. Our thoughts are with the girl’s family in this incredibly distressing time.

“Our priority is to support her family and ensure that thorough research is done.

“We understand the shock and concern that this may have caused the community and ask people not to speculate on the circumstances.

“I tend to hear from anyone who has been on Reddings Lane or the immediate vicinity and may have witnessed the collision or heard anything that may help our investigation.”
