Mike Tyson would have sex to “relax” before his boxing bouts because he was filled with so much adrenaline that he feared he would kill his opponents, his former bodyguard says.
Rudy Gonzalez – who also served as Tyson’s driver during the 1980s – made the claim during an interview with the Sun, suggesting that Tyson, now 55, “would hit the s – – t” of random women just before entering the ring .
“One of the biggest secrets with Mike was that he had to have sex in the dressing room before fights,” Gonzalez said of the supposedly horny heavyweight champion.
“He had to lay down to get rid of some of the strength he had. So I had girls hiding in bathrooms and changing rooms. “
Recalling the ring-side breaks, Gonzalez stated, “Mike would say, ‘If I’m not in love, I’m going to kill this guy right now.’ Sometimes he went in with them [the women] for a minute, hit the s – – t of them, click his neck and say, ‘All right, this guy will live tonight.’ ”
“His biggest fear was that he would kill someone in that ring. He knew he could do it. “
Gonzalez further explained, “It’s no exaggeration to say that Mike was like a train hitting these guys. Sex was his way of denying that power and relaxing a little bit.”
Tyson was reportedly in such an increased emotional state before his fights that he would also occasionally burst into tears in his dressing room.
“He had an anxiety problem where he would despair for fear of not feeling good enough or not wanting to mess it up,” Gonzalez claimed.
“Mike was afraid that if he failed this, he would end up back in his old neighborhood or be locked up.”
Tyson grew up in dangerous areas of Brooklyn back in the 1970s. He was abandoned by his father around the time of his birth, and his mother died in 1982, when Tyson was only 16.
Speaking of the emotional pain he has borne since his childhood, Tyson said in 2012: “I’ve never seen my mother happy with me and proud of me for doing something … I’ve never had a chance to talk to her or know about her … It’s emotionally crushing and personal. ”
Tyson reigned as the undisputed heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990. He was jailed for three years after being convicted of rape in 1992. The athlete went on to stage a comeback after his release from prison on probation, prior to his retirement in 2005.
Tyson – who famously appeared in the 2009 comedy “The Hangover” – is known for his outrageous performances outside the boxing ring.
Earlier this week, he told The Post that he “died” by stumbling over psychedelic toad poison.
“In my travels I have seen that death is beautiful. Life and death must both be beautiful, but death has a bad representation. The toad taught me that I would not be here forever. There is a deadline, ”he declared.
“I did it as courage,” Tyson recalled. “I did heavy drugs like cocaine, so why not? It is another dimension. Before I made the toad, I was a wreck. The toughest opponent I have ever met was myself. I had low self-esteem. People with big egos often have low self-esteem. We use our ego to subsidize that. The toad undresses the ego. “
The “toad” is Toad alvarius, an amphibian found in Mexico, also known as the Sonoran Desert Toad. It spends seven months of the year living underground, but when it is active, its venom can be smoked to produce a short psychoactive journey.
