NSW chooses to bowling, Harris opens in Shield

NSW chose to bowl in its Sheffield Shield clash with Victoria at the MCG, where Ashes hopeful Marcus Harris will have another chance to impress national selectors.

Harris, who opened in Test alongside David Warner earlier this year at the Gabba, is among a roster of players from both states looking to claim a place in Australia’s squad to face England.

Left-handed and Victorian captain Peter Handscomb both made centuries in a 261-run stand to help steer their side to a 204-run victory when the sides met at Drummoyne Oval in their season opener last month.

Victoria and NSW are meeting for the second time this season after their schedules are affected by interstate travel restrictions.

Former Test quick James Pattinson, who announced his international retirement last month, is returning from injury to bolster a Victoria fast attack that was led brilliantly by Scott Boland last time.

Will Pucovski is still inaccessible to the hosts as he recovers from his last bout of concussion.

Victoria XI: Marcus Harris, James Seymour, Peter Handscomb (chapter), Nic Maddinson, Matt Short, Sam Harper, James Pattinson, Will Sutherland, Mitchell Perry, Scott Boland, Jon Holland.

NSW XI: Daniel Hughes, Matthew Gilkes, Jason Sangha, Kurtis Patterson (captain), Jack Edwards, Lachlan Hearne, Sean Abbott, Peter Nevill, Trent Copeland, Nathan Lyon, Liam Hatcher.
