Prince Charles’ chief assistant Michael Fawcett leaves charity amid an honor inquiry

The right hand of Prince Charles and the head of his charity resigned over an investigation into “money for honors”, it appeared last night.

Michael Fawcett resigned as chief executive of The Prince’s Foundation after questions were raised in the autumn about CBE’s award to Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz, a Saudi Arabian billionaire, in 2016.

It was alleged that Mahfouz sent thousands of pounds to fixers with links to the Prince of Wales on assurances that he could receive the honor. Mahfouz denies crime. Fawcett, who was accused of offering to help secure chivalry and British citizenship, was reportedly “heartbroken and shattered”.
