Taika Waititi makes a film based on Alejandro Jodorowsky’s comics The Incal

Taika Waititi is set to co-write and direct an adaptation of The Incalculation, the science fiction graphic novel by writer Alejandro Jodorowsky with art by Jean Giraud, better known as Moebius, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter.

Jodorowsky’s name has been popular in Hollywood recently due to the release of the latest incarnation of Duno earlier this year. Jodorowsky famously worked on a surreal and bizarre adaptation of the novel (along with Moebius and HR Giger), but unfortunately was never able to get any major studios to risk his idea. The journey of that process was later the subject of his own documentary, The Jodorowsky Dune.

The Incalculation is also just the first work in a series of connected comics that Jodorowsky wrote (referred to as the Jodoverse), which could see the next film to be the beginning of the kind of long-running franchise that Hollywood has been pursuing since the success of the. Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Alejandro Jodorowsky’s films and graphic novels have influenced me and so many others for so long. I was surprised to get the opportunity to bring his iconic characters to life and I thank Alejandro, Fabrice and everyone at Humanoids for trusting me to do so, ”Waititi commented in a statement to THR.

The project is just one of several for the busy Waititi, who is also currently working on the next one Thor: Love and Thunder (exit July 8), Upcoming Goal Victories (film about the US Samoan football team’s attempt to qualify for the 2004 World Cup), currently untitled Cosmic Wars film, the expected live-action Akira adaptation, film sequence a What We Do In The Shadows, a Flash Gordon remake, and two animated Roald Dahl shows for Netflix.
