The arrest of a worker who tried to plant spyware on the Israeli Defense Minister’s computer

The Israeli General Security Service (Shin Bet) said on Thursday it had thwarted an attempt by a worker to take care of and clean up the house of Defense Minister Benny Gantz to spy for Iran.

In a statement, the Shin Bet stated that it arrested the worker days after he had contact with an agent working for Iran, and an indictment was filed against him.

The Public Security Agency stated that AG voluntarily directed an agent working for Iran through social media to work for him, due to his presence in the home of the Minister of Defense.

The worker offered the possibility of implanting programs into Gantz’s computer in order to spy on him, according to the Shin Bet, which indicated that the defendant had no connection to sensitive information and posed no security risk.
