Yair Rodriguez shared pictures of his horrific injury after his defeat against Max Holloway at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas.

The Mexican lost by points after five intense rounds but was left with many battle scars.

Both fighters were taken for checks by a doctor with Holloway looking for Rodriguez while he was waiting for him in the back of an ambulance.

“Yair, you ugly beast,” Holloway said as he approached his opponent. The couple shared compliments before taking a photo together.

Rodriguez’s left leg was shown to have swelled as a result of his efforts in his first fight in two years.

His foot seemed to carry most of the pain but suffered with incredible swelling, which was seen in an image shared on social media.

He and Holloway combined to get 389 significant strikes in 25 minutes, the third highest in the organization’s history with each man pocketing a $ 50,000 bonus for their efforts.

“Crazy,” UFC president Dana White said. “It was one of the best fights I’ve ever seen.”

Rodriguez said after the fight, “I came really ready for this fight. Max is an amazing fighter. He was better than me tonight.”

Holloway added: “All the love for Yair. This guy is an animal. I feel great. His boxing is pretty good. He moved like a boxer but then he threw elbows.

“A fair game to him; this guy is a terrible animal, so I wanted to fight him.”

The win for Holloway could give him a third shot against Alexander Volkanovski having lost his last two bouts by narrow margins.

However a possible rematch with Conor McGregor, a man he lost to in 2013, is also on the cards.

“We’ll see what happens,” Holloway added. “I got a win over the 155 pound champion. [Charles Oliveira], we have Alex and stuff. I’m on the shortlist for Conor McGregor.

“To be the best, you have to beat the best and the best is ‘Blessed.’ They can come after me, let’s get it. “

White confirmed he would be looking to book the trilogy title fight when he said, “It’s one of those things; it was a razor thin, he just comes in and puts on a presentation like this.

“This is just a guy Volkanovski will just have to get away from him and do it again.”
